National catalogue PiCarta

National treasure of libraries

PiCarta allows you to search in multiple databases in one go. PiCarta refers to books, journal articles and electronic sources in the Netherlands.

The service is available in English, as well as in German.

Direct to PiCarta

If PiCarta does not work there is an alternative: Worldcat, which provides access to the collections and services of more than 10,000 libraries around the world.

Why PiCarta?

PiCarta searches the Dutch Central Catalogue NCC and Online Contents, a database with the tables of contents of 17,000 journals.

PiCarta is a very useful resource for literature searches. If you cannot find enough information via the local Xplora collections, PiCarta is often the next place to look. This is because PiCarta allows you to consult major collections across the Netherlands.

Good to know: when you have found a journal article in PiCarta it shows whether it is available at Avans.

How does PiCarta work?

  • It operates in Dutch, English or German
  • You cannot submit direct requests to PiCarta. However, you can use the references to order publications via an Xplora staff member.
  • You can find detailed information about the key functions in PiCarta under Help.
