Avans Hogeschoollaan non-smoking
From Monday 15 April, the Hogeschoollaan in Breda has a non-smoking outdoor area. Avans organised a starting event that day, together with the neighbouring Amphia Hospital. Because also at Amphia the site is completely non-smoking now for all its patients, visitors and employees.
Jacomine Ravensbergen, member of the Executive Board of Avans, together with pulmonologist Remco Djamin and Breda councilor Miriam Haagh, gave the symbolic starting signal for the non-smoking areas. Both sites were officially declared smoke-free with illusionist acts. In a playful way, they were active all day long to call attention to the change.
Ashtray piles outside Avans
All smoking facilities have been removed from the Hogeschoollaan and non-smoking signs have been placed. There is now a table tennis table on the site of the former 'smokehouse'. Students and staff can borrow table tennis bats and balls from the reception. The municipality of Breda has placed ashtray posts at strategic points outside the Avans site, so that cigarette butts do not end up on the street.
